RRTS - Regional Rapid Transit System

  


RRTS

Background:  


  •  Task force - 2005 - by Planning Commission - Chairman is Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) - to develop multi modal transit system for NCR - National Capital Region of Delhi 

  • Identified 8 Corridors. 

  • Priority: 3 Corridors i.e., 1. Delhi – Ghaziabad – Meerut Corridor 2. Delhi – Gurugram – SNB – Alwar Corridor 3. Delhi - Panipat

  • Other 5 Corridors are 4. Delhi – Faridabad – Ballabgarh - Palwal 

5. Ghaziabad – Khurja  6. Delhi - Bahadurgarh - Rohtak 

7. Ghaziabad-Hapur  8. Delhi-Shahdara-Baraut 

NCRTC 


  • Stands for National Capital Region Transport Corporation  

  • Developed the RRTS   

  • Joint venture of Central Government and 4 State Governments i.e., Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan & UP 

  •  MOU - Memorandum of Understanding - among Central Govt and 4 State Govts - 2011 

  • Incorporated as a Registered Company in 2013 


  • Logo: comprises 2 elements. The word marked NCRTC and an arrowhead made up of polka dots ( Round dots repeated to form a regular pattern).

  • Polka dots symbolically  represent the stakeholders i.e., Govt, Institutions, People etc for a common goal of balanced and sustained regional development through connectivity.

  • Fast moving arrow represents speed and forward movement in the direction of progress and improvement in the quality of the citizen. 

RRTS: 


  • RRTS stands for Regional Rapid Transit System 

  • RRTS - a State of the art regional mobility solution, comparable to the best in the World. 

  • Delhi - Ghaziabad - Meerut - 82 KMs - 24 Stations Fully operational by 2025 - Will cover in 60 Minutes - First RRTS project in India

  • First phase - 17 KMs - 5 Stations i.e., Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai & Duhai Depot  - Opening on 20.10.2023

  • Called as RapidX 

  • Namo Bharat Train  - Name of Trains in RRTS

  • Operational Speed - 160 KM Per hour (Against 80 KM per hour in Metro Trains)  

  • PM Gatishakti National Master plan - Multi modal integration at RRTS stations with Indian Railways, Delhi Metro, Airports & Bus stands.  

  • Delhi - Meerut  - Funded by 1. ADB - Asian Development Bank 2. New Development Bank & 3. Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank    

  • Cost - Rs. 30,000 Crores 

  • More women employees compared to Men 

  • A dedicated “Lost and Found Centre” at Ghaziabad - to expedite the retrieval of misplaced belongings  

  • Frequency: Every 15 Minutes . It was designed to run at a frequency of every 5 minutes in case of more demand. 

  • PSD - Platform Screen Doors 

  1. Isolate the platforms from the track.

  2. Will open only when the train stops at the correct position. 

  3. Will be synchronously controlled throughout the Platform and operate in synchronization with the Train Doors.

  4. So it prevents accidents, objects falling on track and trespassing. 



Speed:  

  • Design  - 180 KM per hour 

  • Operation - 160 KM per hour 

  • Average - 100 KM per hour  


RRTS is Different:  


  • From Metro  - Longer distance, Fewer stops & Higher speed

  • From Indian Railways  - Reliable, high frequency, point to point to regional travel at high speed & Dedicated pathway 


Objects of RRTS  


  1. Boosting economic activity 

  2. Provide improved access to employment, education & healthcare opportunities 

  3. Significant reduction of air pollution

  2. Wi-Fi 

  3. Mobile & Laptop charging facility at every seat 

  4. Vending machine facility 

  5. Premium class car - More legroom, wider seats, Coat hangers etc
